Luminous Night 2024
A Community Winter Solstice Ceremony
GIFTS OF THE SEASON
The Winter Solstice offers the perfect moment to pause, reflect, and nurture the light within.
In this longest night of the year, when the sun stands still, we naturally want to go in, but often end up being even more busy because of the holidays. This is a chance to enjoy a tranquil, quiet evening to slow down and savor peaceful, inner space in loving community.
Since before recorded history, humans have observed solstices and equinoxes as a powerful time of self-reflection and community ceremony with meditation, dancing, and feasting. These celebrations are probably humanity’s most ancient seasonal observances. It’s in our blood!

Let this sacred annual celebration be a respite from the rush. A tranquil evening where you can listen deeply, move freely, and reconnect with the quiet wisdom of your inner world. Together, in loving community, we’ll celebrate the turning of the year through simple, powerful rituals:
-
-
-
-
- Embodied movement to release the old year and the painful stories we’ve carried.
- Stillness and silence to meet your inner light.
- Shared intention to begin again with clarity and grace.
-
-
-
The longest night invites us to honor stillness.
To exhale. To release. To return to ourselves.
The Ceremony
Completing the Year
Whatever this solar year has brought, this longest night marks its end. There is nothing we can do to make it come sooner or stop it, but we can exhale with it.
With breath, sound, movement and meditation we’ll put this solar year to bed. You’ll have the opportunity to reflect, express, feel, and release anything you’re done with, so you can move forward into this next solar cycle renewed and energized.

A gathering of luminous hearts uniting to move in harmony with the rhythm of stillness.
Together, we descend into the quiet embrace of the dark,
discovering the light within that will carry us forward in times of uncertainty.
Beginning again with heart and soul
Journey into the dark and silence of yourself to connect with your inner light. In sacred space, light a candle with your own intention, create a personal ritual, or simply rest in the gift of stillness. Simple facilitation will guide you, but this night is yours to honor in your own way.

As the great wheel turns and the light begins its return,
may we each find our own sacred ways to greet the dawn of a new day,
a new year, and a new vision!

About the Host
Sylvia Nibley discovered she was made for ecstatic dance on a summer solstice night in the desert 33 years ago, when the power of trance surprised her with the force of a wild animal, and she’s been dancing into her body ever since.
She founded the Women’s Full Moon Dance 21 years ago at the Winter Solstice and continues to love creating sacred spaces for embodied transformation.
The Women’s Full Moon Dance is co-created by a group of passionate movers. We usually gather on the Saturday closest to the full moon to enjoy the medicine of movement and reconnect with body and spirit in sacred space. We also host occasional special events open to the whole community (usually Solstices and Equinoxes).
We hope you join us to continue the legacy of this annual gathering to honor the solstice, nurture the light, and reconnect with the rhythm of life itself!
